Recommendation for a 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter to Fit Draw-Tite 1-1/4 Class I Hitch # 24769
Question:
I recently purchased the Draw-Tite Sport Class I 1-1/4inch receiver hitch for my 2009 Dodge Caliber. What 2inch adaptor is compatible with this hitch? There appears to be a manufactured bur in the receiver tunnel that prevents an adaptor from those big box stores from working properly- they are too long. The pin hole doesnt line up correctly.

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite Sport Hitch # 24769 you have is a Class I, therefore, the hitch adapter you need to convert your 1-1/4-inch to a 2-inch receiver is the Brophy Adapter # HTAD. The reason the box store hitch adapter would not work is because adapters are made for a specific class of hitch. The manufacturer actually puts a punch in the steel to prevent a Class II accessory from being used in a Class I hitch.
Your hitch is a Class I, therefore, your adapter needs to be Class I approved, which is the case for the Brophy # HTAD.
Please note that when you add an adapter to a hitch the tongue weight of the hitch is reduced by fifty percent, so you need to be very aware of the weight you will be carrying on this hitch with the adapter.
I have attached a short video review of this unit.
