Recommended Wiring Harness To Install A Brake Controller On 2021 Ranger Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
I just got a 2021 Ford Ranger and will be towing a small camper behind it. It did not come with the factory towing package, but I need to get a brake controller as the trailer will have electric brakes. I've seen a lot of good reviews on the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite RED44FR and it will be the one I go with, but what all do I need to wire it up? I currently do not have a hitch installed either so could use a recommendation for that as well.

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR is an extremely capable and popular controller and is one that I recommend regularly. Once installed, it has one of the cleanest looks, if not the most, and is very easy to use and set up. Getting it wired into your 2021 Ford Ranger will require a few things though.
First, you will need to start with a 4 Flat. The Tekonsha T-One # 118654 will accomplish this and will then allow you to upgrade to a 7 Way with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will piggyback off the 4 Flat and will have all the wires, circuit breakers, and brackets needed to get everything installed and working. The # RED44FR will then be wired directly to this to complete the brake controller install. I included install videos for you to check out as well.
For a hitch, I recommend going with the etrailer.com Class III # e63ZR. This is a direct bolt on application with no drilling to get installed. It is also rated up to 6,000 pounds towing, which will increase to 8,000 pounds if weight distribution is used, and 900 pounds of tongue weight capacity.
