Recommended Hitch And Wiring To Tow A Small Trailer With A 2021 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I have a 2021 Toyota Rav4 and will be needing a hitch and wiring to tow a small boat trailer. The guy Im getting it from said it is just under 1000 pounds and has a 2inch coupler with no brakes. He also said I needed to know that the coupler was 18inches off the ground, but Im not sure what thats for. But anyway, I currently do not have a hitch or wiring or ball bar thing, so I need everything.

We can definitely get you the parts needed to tow with your 2021 Toyota RAV4. To start with, the etrailer.com Class III Hitch # e23ZR is rated up to 4,000 pounds towing and 600 pounds of tongue weight, so it will definitely handle the trailer you are looking at. This is also a direct bolt on application and will take no time to get installed. I included an install video of this to help as well.

That 18" measurement he gave you is actually very useful as it will help determine which ball mount you need. Once the # e23ZR is installed, the top of the receiver opening will be right at 12-1/4". With the trailer coupler being at 18", it will mean you need 6" of rise to keep everything nice and level. The Curt Ball Mount # C45100 will accomplish this rise and you will just need to attach the 2" Hitch Ball # 63845 to get it hooked up to the trailer. The Curt Pin and Clip # C21510 will keep the ball mount secure in the hitch as well.

The last thing you will need is wiring. Since he said there are no brakes on the trailer, you will need the Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat # C56434. This will get all the lights working on the trailer and other than one wire that needs to be run up to the battery for needed power, will be a plug and play hook up.
