Will Brakes For A Dexter 8-174-5UC3 Hub Also Work In A 8-201-9UC3-EZ Hub

Question:

I want to convert my Dexter # 8-174-5UC3 hubs over to the 8-201-9UC3-EZ style to use common type wheels and tires. My question is in regard to the brake plates. Do the hubs use the same style brake plates? If not, what are the options I need to look at to match up the bolt pattern?

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-9UC3-EZ will actually be a great replacement if you are wanting to swap out your current # 8-174-5UC3 drums. Not only do these use the exact same inner and outer bearings, they also accept the same 12" x 2" brake assemblies, like the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust # 23-464-465.

The 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern will also be a lot easier to match wheels to, and if you have not looked at an as of yet, I can recommend checking out the Kenda Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15" White Spoke Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2" - Load Range E # AM32680. The radial tire on this has an E rating (2,830 pounds at 80 psi), an M speed rating (81 mph), and is ideal for highway use.
