2022 Kia Telluride Curt Hitch Rating Compared To The Factory Option Hitch
Question:
I need to get set-up to tow a travel trailer, a little under 20 feet long. I have a new 2022 Kia Telluride that I bought, buying, to go along with the trailer I am looking at. This RV thing is all new to me so I have been doing a lot of reading and learning about weight ranges, towing specs etc. and your hitches show greater tongue weight than what the vehicle specs show, why? I am trying to decide if I should buy from you or order it with the hitch.

First off, welcome to the world of RV'ing. We hope you enjoy and please be aware we always here to help with your needs; be it parts or help answering questions. Now, on to your question. Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13420 is confirmed to fit the 2022 Kia Telluride and yes it does have a manufacturers rating of 5,000 lbs. gross trailer weight with a 750 lb. tongue weight, while your vehicle has manufacturer published specs of 5,000 lbs. max gross trailer weight but only 500 lb. tongue weight. This is because the hitch manufacturer tests their product separately from the vehicle, you will need to abide by the lower rating. Testing the hitches this way is standard operation. Sometimes vehicles OEM's will use the same platform for different models and the aftermarket manufacturers can support hitches for each with the same product. But each model from the vehicle manufacturer may have a different weight rating event though on the same platform. Additionally, they may change their ratings from one year model to the next. For example, your 2022 model year is rated at 500 lb. tongue weight but the 2020is rated at 351 lb. TW. But each model year can use the same Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13420. The big advantage to buying from us, aside from our wonderful service, is the price point over the factory hitch which is generally much more.
Please note the product installation video I linked below. This shows the hitch discussed above being installed on a 2021 model.
