Hopkins Agility Brake Controller Will Not Turn Back On

Question:

Wired the unit to the factory installed wiring harness. Unit indicated it was on and connected to the trailer. I cycled through the controls and the unit went dead and has stayed that way. Thank you 2019 Chevy Colorado and a brand new travel trailer

If you Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller # HM47294 has not powered back on, it will mean one of two things. The brake controller fuse on your 2019 Colorado blew and will need to be replaced, or the controller shorted and it will need to be replaced.

To start with, you will need to check the fuse in position F27 in the fuse box located in the engine compartment, picture included. This will be the one that handles the trailer brake controller. If this has indeed blown, it will need to be replaced. But, I recommend doing this without the controller being connected. Once it is replaced, plug the controller back in and proceed as before with setting it up. If the controller will still not power on, or if it shuts itself off again, you will need to double check that same fuse to see if it blew again.

However, if the fuse is not blown or it blows again, there is either something going on with the controller, you have a bad ground somewhere, or it could be wired incorrectly.

There will be four wires bundled together behind the left side kick panel of your Colorado. The harness contains the following circuits and you will need to make sure you have solid connections to the correct ones.
-Battery feed - Vehicle - Red/Green - Brake Controller - Black
-Ground - Vehicle - Black - Brake Controller - White
-Brake signal to controller - Vehicle - White/Blue - Brake Controller - Red
-Trailer Brake power to trailer connector - Vehicle - Blue - Brake Controller - Blue

Once these are confirmed and or secured, you will need to make sure the ground at the 7 Way on your truck is also secure and not stacked with other ground sources. If this was pre-installed from Chevy, you can skip this step though.

If all this looks good and none of it gets your controller up and running, you will need to replace it. The Hopkins Agility # HM47294 has a lifetime warranty and you will need to contact the place it was purchased from to get the needed info for a replacement.
