Cost-Effective Way to Tow 5th Wheel With a 2016 Ram 3500 Short Bed Pickup

Question:

I will be towing a 42, 15k lb triple axle toyhauler with pin wt of 2400-2500 lbs. The tow vehicle is a 16 Ram 3500 SRW with shorter bed. I am starting from scratch and was considering a combo of BandW turnover gn with Anderson ultimate 5th wheel or oem puck with slider hitch. Im just looking for the most secure and lesser expense option as all I plan to do is pull rv with truck. Also, what is best bang for buck option for load-leveling? Thanks in advance,

Helpful Expert Reply:

After installing the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1314 on your 2016 Ram 3500 I recommend using the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216. This installs directly on your pin box, has an offset of 7-1/2", and will be more cost-effective than the Anderson gooseneck adapter.

For a cost-effective suspension enhancement I recommend the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSR-301-47-2. This will give you the support that you need when you're coupled with your 5th wheel but it won't affect your ride when you aren't towing.

If you don't already have a 7-Way in the bed of your truck then you also might be interested in the Curt # C56070. This makes connecting/disconnecting your 5th wheel wiring much easier.
