Does Capacity of Curt 2 Inch Hitch for 2022 Subaru Outback Meet Towing Capacity of Vehicle
Question:
Does capacity Curt C67JR class 3 hitch match the towing capacity of the vehicle?

Expert Reply:
The towing capacity of the 2022 Subaru Outback depends on which engine the vehicle's equipped with. 2.4L equipped vehicles will have a maximum towing capacity of 3500 lbs/350 lb tongue weight. 2.5L equipped vehicles will have a lower capacity, at 2700 lbs towing/270 lbs tongue weight.
The capacity of the Curt 13494 Class III hitch which we offer as # C67JR is 4000 lb towing/600 lbs tongue weight, which is actually greater than the capacity of the vehicle.
Because you'll want to abide by the capacity of the lowest rated component of the towing system, you'd be limited by the capacity of the vehicle itself. The hitch manufacturers do this because they don't care to have their product be the point of failure, so they over-engineer them by a small margin.
In addition to the # CU89FR hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like part # 118467, a ball mount like part # C45010 with pin and clip # PC3, and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
I've linked to install videos for the hitch and the wiring harness I mentioned.
