Do I Need A Fixed Or Slider Type B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch For 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 SB

Question:

I have a new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 with the puck system on the way. I need a 5th wheel hitch and want to know if I really do need the slider type or not. I do have the short bed version but have been told that these newer trucks the puck system set differently and you do need to have the slide. I am looking at the B&W brand and convinced to buy this, but which model?

I do like to suggest the B&W hitches to our neighbors, they build great products. Glad to see you are going that route. We have two options I'll suggest for you that fit your new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500, the fixed hitch type B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC With Towing Prep Package, # BWRVK3710 that you linked to, and the slide version B&W Companion, # BWRVK3775.

Slide or no slide is an oft discussed topic, I prefer to recommend, with a few exceptions, the slide option for a short bed truck unless of course you have a rotating type turret pin box on your 5th Wheel RV. Yes there are sometimes exceptions such as the model 5th wheels that have a sharp radius cap front end that naturally allow for tighter turns without contacting the cab of the tow vehicle. But that is not most 5th wheel RV's. Feedback is showing that the new GM trucks equipped with the new GM puck system and short beds are sometimes able to use the fixed hitch and make full 90 degree turn due to the pucks being moved further to the rear. Please consider though that this is also just as dependent on what they are hauling and how the front is designed as well. And, if for your load balance, you can actually position the pivot arms to support this. Unless you can measure to the point of confidence that your 5th wheel will not make contact with the cab of your new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500, I would go with the slide version of B&W Companion, # BWRVK3775.
