Are The Dexter Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-26-27 Waterproof
Question:
i have a 91 22 ft boat trailer . are your electric brakes water proof?

Traditionally, trailer manufacturers did not use electric brakes on boat trailers because the brake magnet wiring and trailer wiring did not always have the best insulation or water protection. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500lbs # 23-26-27 you referenced are not waterproof, so while I do not recommend them you can still use them on your boat trailer. I highly recommend using heat shrink butt connectors, like part # DW05745-10, when splicing the wires together for a more watertight seal. I also recommend unplugging the trailer wiring from the vehicle before backing into the water and not plugging them back in until the trailer has had a chance to dry.
You will also need a brake controller to actuate this electric brakes. For this I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. It's our most popular model and comes with 5 Storable settings let you customize the controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or different drivers. It has integrated safeguards protect your vehicle , trailer and the controller and a quick-disconnect feature that lets you easily remove and store the controller when not in use.
