Towing Capacity of 2020 Ram ProMaster 1500
Question:
Rams info about the tow capacity of their 2019 - 2021 Promaster 1500 cargo vans have me confused. I want to tow a 6,200 lb RV trailer but I cant figure out whether adding a tow hitch to a van that didnt come with it from the factory is going to handle it. The 2020s all apparently come with sway control, but not usually the tow package, and the literature says it can tow up to 6,800 lbs if properly equipped. Does that mean only if factory installed?

The max towing capacity of a 2020 Ram ProMaster 1500 is 6,910 lbs for low roof models with 118" wheelbase, 6,800 lbs for low roof models with 136" wheelbase, and 6,700 lbs for high roof models with 136" wheelbase. These figures apply to both factory and aftermarket hitches. If you don't already have a trailer hitch I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13207 which offers an easy bolt-on install. You'll then need trailer wiring for which I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118618 for 4-way or part # 22112 for 7-way. A trailer over 3,500 lbs likely has brakes so you'd need the 7-way along with a brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160.
