Recommended Solution to Carry Cargo Carrier with 2 Inch Shank on Curt Hitch with 1-1/4 Inch Receiver

Question:

Hi, I bought from your store a Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1 / 4 inch for my 2021 Kia Soul, , but the king bird hitch cargo carrier does not fit the hitch that I bought from your store. Can you tell me which adapter that I must use to be able to solve the problem that I have.?

I'll start out by saying that I don't believe that an adapter is the best way to go here. Since the Curt # C67FR is a Class I receiver, you'd need an adapter that is compatible with a Class I hitch. The drawback here is that using an adapter like this will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle by 50%. It looks like the 2021 Kia Soul has a tongue weight capacity of 200-lbs, so the maximum amount you'd be able to carry would be 100-lbs (including the weight of the carrier) if you used an adapter. If you wanted to go the adapter route then you'd need to use the Buyers Products Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # HTAD.

With all of that said, your best bet would be to get a cargo carrier that is designed to fit in a 1-1/4" receiver and did not require an adapter; this would allow you to carry up to 200-lbs total (carrier and cargo). The carrier I recommend using is the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs # 63155, which will fit in a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver and only weighs 44-lbs. This would be the best solution available to use with your Curt # C67FR hitch on your 2021 Kia Soul.
