Recommended Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter for 2017 Jayco Toy Hauler With 5,000 Pound Tongue Weigh

Question:

I have a 2017 Jayco Toy Hauler that is triple axle, 19,000 GVWR, and apparently has a tongue weight of around 5000lbs. My question is, will the goosebox from Reese work or is my trailer too heavy and need the Gen-y gooseneck pin box. Thank you

Since the tongue weight capacity of the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter # RP85FR is 4,000 lbs and you are around 5,000 lbs this will not work for you. Based on the Reese goose box you were looking at I will assume you have a Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box.

I recommend the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621HD # GY66FR. This 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter has a towing capacity of 25,000 lbs and a pin weight capacity range of 3,500-5,500 lbs. This will work well assuming you are not over 5,500 lbs on your pin weight. I would make sure to measure it just in case since there seems to be some uncertainty.

If you do not know which pin box you currently have, you will need to verify this as well since this Gen-Y will only work with the Lippert 1621/1621 HD. The number can usually be found on a sticker on your pin box. You may also look for a serial number or other identifying number which the manufacturer can use to identify the pin box. If none of these are present, or they are faded, you will have to measure to find out what you have.

I have attached a helpful article explaining how to measure and determine which pin box you have as well as a video review of the Gen-Y for your reference. If you find that you have a different pin box, feel free to reach out and I would be happy to help you find the right adapter.
