I spoke to Tekonsha and the codes on your Primus IQ # TK90160 should change over within about 5 seconds on plugging in the trailer. You should not have to drive the vehicle around to get it to change either. With that being said, there could be one or two things causing this to happen.
First will be a bad ground somewhere. This will cause the circuit to not close all the way and make the controller not recognize the trailer when plugged in. I suggest double checking your ground connections on the trailer and vehicle, but specifically the ones for the brakes on the trailer.
Once those are checked and or fixed, you will need to make sure your 7 Way plugs are in good condition and making solid connections to each other. A loose fit or "dirty" port can cause a bad connection which could also be the culprit.
If both of these are good and or don't get you up and running, let me know and we can try something else. Odds are you just have a ground issue though.
