Troubleshooting A Trailer That Is Not Connecting To Two Separate Newer Ram Trucks

Question:

On 2 of my newer Ram trucks, it says trailer brake not connected when hooked to 1 specific the trailer. Same trailer hooked to both vehicles. This only started recently, and I assume the problem is on the trailer side. Do you know what might be the problem and fix?. Thank you!

Trucks such as your newer Ram trucks send a small amount of power through the connector on the truck and them detecting a load is what tells the truck that the trailer is connected.

Since neither of your trucks is detecting that specific trailer the issue is more than likely that there is corrosion or debris in the trailer connector so you will want to check it very thoroughly. If you find any white/green corrosion then it is likely that there is corrosion inside of the connector as well, and replacing the entire connector would be the best way to get rid of it all.

If you find corrosion you will want replacement connector # PK12706.

Let me know what you find and we can go into more troubleshooting steps if needed.

I included videos of the products mentioned along with a link to a helpful article on trailer wiring for you to take a look at.
