Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500

Question:

Looking for the best option Currently have a small toy hauler 5th wheel, Unloaded 7K dry weight. Picking up a 2006 dodge mega cab,3500 that currently has an existing goosenect ball setup that looks very similar to a BandW mounted under the bed. I have a used Reese Pro series 5th wheel that hasnt been installed. I would need to purchase the installation kit and I BELIVE, remove the existing goose neck setup... OR Do I go with a set up like this? Are there any downsides to going this route over a fifth wheel? I was a truck driver for yrs so I was a little partial to the fifth wheel...but this setup looks pretty sweet. I was concerned with trailer warranty.

First, the warranty will not be an issue if the trailer frame is made by Lippert and you use the Goose Box because it is endorsed by Lippert Components Inc. and will not affect the warranty on their trailer frames. You would have to contact the manufacturer of the trailer frame if it is not a Lippert.

The Goose Boxes are sweet items. Not only can you tow your 5th wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch but you also get an air cushioned ride.

Goose Box # RP85FR will work with Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD and Fabex PB-600 Series pin boxes. Check the trailer pin box for a sticker or plate with the manufacturer and model number.

We also have Goose Box # RP94716-61301. It fits Lippert 0115, 1116 and 1716 pin boxes.

If you do not have one of the pin boxes listed above then I recommend going with a different adapter, the Andersen Ranch Hitch, # AM3100. I have linked a video review for you. If you go this route I also recommend the safety chains # AM3109.

If you do not want to use an adapter, and because you do already have a 5th wheel trailer hitch, you could use Reese semi-custom installation kit # RP30035-186. I have included links to the installation instructions for you to view.
