Selecting Correct Replacement 12 x 2 Electric Brake and Drum Assembly for 6000-lb Axle

I need to order new electric 12X2 inch brakes and drums for my trailer. some specs show 2 1/4inch axle seal and some show 2 1/8inch seal. What do I need to measure to order the correct part? Thanks

The best way to identify the correct replacement components for your trailer is by using the part numbers from your current inner and outer bearings and grease seals (or a spindle measurement where the seal and bearings ride). It is possible to measure the spindles to obtain grease seal dimensions (location B on the photo) but this process requires care and a precision digital caliper like # PTW80157. You will also need to confirm the diameter of your wheel studs. We already know your brakes are 12 x 2 and that your axles are 6000-lb rated. Please refer to the photo provided which shows where to find the part numbers and where to measure your spindles to obtain the grease seal inner diameter.

I have provided a link to our product page for integrated 12 x 2-inch hub/drum assemblies, with the 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern, suited for 6000-lb axles. The part you referenced, Dexter EZ-Lube Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ, uses this 6 on 5-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. This part is intended for 5200-lb axles and includes the hub/drum, bearings (inner bearing 25580 and outer bearing LM67048) , races, seal, grease cap, wheel bolts and lug nuts.

If your 6000-lb trailer axle uses inner bearing 25580 and outer bearing 15123, and EZ-Lube spindles, you can use part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ. This part also includes the hub/drum, bearings, races, seal, grease cap, wheel bolts and lug nuts and comes pre-greased. I have linked a product review video for this part.

If your brakes use a 5-bolt mount (which is most likely) you can use part # AKEBRK-7R-SA for the right-hand side and part # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left. These are self adjusting brakes that do not require manual adjustment.

We recommend that you use new hardware to install the brakes. You will need either 4- or 5-per wheel of each of the following: nuts, part # 38N; lock washer, part # 38LW; and bolts, part # 7-5.
