Brake Controller Installation on 2006 Toyota Tacoma Using Factory Pigtail
Question:
My 2006 brake controller connector has no blue wire. It does have a yellow, but not very thick.

It sounds like you're speaking of the factory pigtail that was usually found in the glove box, is that correct?
I found that the wire color/function of the Toyota factory brake controller pigtail is as follows:
• Black pigtail wire w/ red stripe connects to black brake controller wire for 12-V power to controller
• Green pigtail wire with white stripe connects to red controller wire for the stop lamp signal
• Brown wire on pigtail connects to white brake controller wire for the ground connection
• Red pigtail wire connects to blue brake controller wire for brake controller output to brakes
The stoplamp switch wire is usually of a smaller gauge than the rest, so my guess is that your yellow wire on your pigtail has faded over the years and now looks more yellow than green. You can confirm this by plugging the pigtail into the connector under the dash and using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 on that yellow wire to see if the wire powers up when you push the brake pedal. If it does, the wire has just faded.
I've linked to an installation video that will show where the brake controller connector is located under the dash.
