Best 5th Wheel Hitch for a Lifted 2021 Ram 2500 With Factory Prep Package

Question:

I have a lifted, several inches, 2021 Ram 2500 with an 8 ft. bed. It has the factory prep package, the puck system, and I was looking at the B&W Companion Hitch. But, I am concerned about the height trying to use this with a 5th wheel toy hauler. Is it too high? Will the bed rails make contact with RV?

We have what is needed to make this work for you. Let's start by addressing the height, Please note the attached image. When towing you want your 5th wheel to be set level and you should have at least 5 to 6 inches between your rails and underside of the RV. Becuse your truck is raised several inches, you will want a hitch with a low height. I frequently recommend the same B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram with Towing Prep Package, # BWRVK3600 that you identified, as it is one of, if not the best hitches on the market. The fact that you have the OEM Prep Package, the puck system, is good and I would definitely recommend this if not for the potential height concern. The B&W Companion, # BWRVK3600, is 17" tall on its lowest setting.

I recommend the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package, # C16044. This can be adjusted to as low as 14' and up to 18". To determine the height setting simply measure from the the bottom of your trailer's pin box to the ground; after that measure from the top of your truck bed to the ground. The difference between those measurements will be correct hitch height. The Curt A20 is easy to use and will have a very strong connection to your king pin. The indicator system will let you know if the jaws on the hitch are ready to couple, uncouple or tow. This color-coded system makes the process of hooking up or disconnecting your trailer much simpler than most hitches. The interlocking jaw provides total contact with your king pin which is important because it results in a more comfortable, quieter ride than many hitches due to less chucking.

If you do find your trailer needs more height in order to get level, there is an option for that too, the over/under conversion kit, which moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack. A 5th wheel trailer will likely have a 3" round axle so you would need Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit, # K71-385-00. If your axles are different and you want to go this route, please let me know.

Finally, will probably want a 5th wheel wiring harness, you can add one with the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector, # C56000.
