What is the Capacity of Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars on Ram Promaster Van

Question:

Is the 165# capacity the total capacity of the bars? Or is it the capacity of each bar? I notice it is listed as the same for 2, 3 or 4 bars. I want to install a Batwing Awning on a Ram Promaster 1500 high roof and I need to understand how much capacity I will have for other things such as a cargo box or basket with contents. Will my Promaster accept 3 crossbars?

The capacity of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA180B-2 that is listed will depend on the vehicle in most cases; from what I'm seeing, the Rhino Rack roof rack kits that fit on newer Promaster vans have a 220-lbs capacity. This information is based on Promaster vans as early as 2016, but older models may have a lower capacity.

I do not believe that the Ram Promaster will accept a 3rd crossbar since the roof has designated fixed mounting points (typically 2 on each side), but typically more bars does equate to a higher carrying capacity. The Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning - Roof Rack Mount - Bolt On - Passenger's Side - 118 Sq Ft # RR33200 only weighs about 50-lbs, so you should have plenty of capacity left for a roof cargo box as well.
