Looking to Adapt a 6 Round Vehicle Plug to 7 Blade Trailer Plug

Question:

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon SLT with a 6 pole round trailer connection socket. My horse trailer has electric brakes and a 7 blade plug on it. Will this adapter allow me to plug my trailer plug into the truck socket and have everything on the trailer work it does not have reverse lights? This is the only trailer I have with electric brakes, so is there any advantage in rewiring the truck to a 7 blade socket? I also need a controller and am planning on purchasing the Draw-Tite I-Command with the plug in wire adapter Part Numbers: TK63VR. I have watched your videos and see where to plug in the adapter on my truck, but my question is whether my truck has anything wired to that plug. If I have the spot for the adapter to plug in, will it automatically be wired from the factory at that spot? I just purchased this truck a few days ago so I dont know much about it. The Hopkins 6-Pole to 7-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47435 will definitely work as an adapter, but you will indeed have no reverse lights. I do also need to mention that the 6 Round style plug is not going to be a very common style so it may not be a bad idea to upgrade it to a standard 7 Blade.

The Hopkins 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring # HM40975-11998 will require some cutting and splicing to get installed, but will match the 7 Blade on your trailer. This also includes a 4 Flat plug on the side so you will not need any kind of adapter if you ever pull a smaller trailer with no brakes as well. You can also leave the reverse light port open if you prefer as it does not need to be attached to anything.

As to getting the Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN # TK63VR installed in your 2002 Yukon SLT, it's a cakewalk. The # 3025-P will plug directly into a port under your dash, install video included, and all you have to do is figure out where you want to mount the controller. All wires were pre-run on the early 2000's GM full size trucks and SUVs, making life significantly easier.
