Your Scion xD will work with several Thule trunk-mount 2-bike carriers including the Passage # TH910XT. The link for trunk-mount carriers provided will show you all four carriers suitable for the 2008 through 2013 Scion xD, which include the Passage, Gateway, Archway and Raceway series. Please note that for any of these carries the rear wiper on your Scion cannot be used with the rack in place, and the plastic cover over the rear bumper may deform from the weight of the bikes. (It is recommended to remove the rack when it is not in use.)

The OutWay, part # TH45JV, is the easiest to install. It includes a 2 rubber coated strap attachment system, rather than the 6 straps used on the Passage to secure the rack to your Scion XD and the OutWay carrier also includes a lock for both the rack and the carrier to deter theft. Others require you to purchase those separately.

If you will be transporting bikes for women, kids or those with an alternate-frame-style (no horizontal top frame tube) you may benefit from the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, part # TH982XT. This simple device installs between the seat post and the handlebar post to provide a level horizontal mounting surface for attachment to the carrier. Please refer to the linked video for this part.

Another type of rear-mounted bike carrier is the hitch-mount type. A wide variety of racks are available for use with hitch receivers (both hanging and platform types, many of which can fold or tilt out of the way when you need access to the rear of your vehicle). These require a hitch receiver be mounted to the vehicle.

If your Scion xD is a 2011 through 2013 model year, for example, you could use Curt 1-1/4-inch hitch # C11134 along with the required support strap, part # 18050. Installation of a hitch receiver will avoid the potential issue of a trunk-mount carrier deforming your bumper cover and also allows use of other hitch-mounted accessory items such as cargo carriers. This Curt hitch is rated for 200-lbs of tongue weight, which is more than enough to support the weight of a 2-bike carrier and bikes.
