Rhino-Rack Crossbar Length Needed For Two Thule Hullavators on Truck Cap

Question:

Please clarify the crossbar length needed to mount two hullivators. In previous threads below a total length of 76” and of 65” were given. A third thread gives a a length of 57” We want to mount two hullivators on an RSI pickup Evo Sport smartcap that has a dynamic load limit greater than 300 lbs. The pickup is a Tacoma with a body width of 74”. We are looking at 71” vortex bars from Rhino Rack Should we go up to 76”? Can we go shorter, ie 65”? Even shorter? The cap has a taper making the roof width smaller than the truck width. Hullivators have a stated width of 36” which is wider than their mounting footprint of 28.5” Thank you

Good question, and in regards to the width of the Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898, it is 36 inches, though its mounting takes up crossbar space of only 28-1/2 inches because a portion of it will be over the edge of the crossbar (see the accompanying photo for an example of this).

So technically, 57 inches is the minimum length of crossbar for two Hullavator Pros, but doesn't leave any room for spacing, so the minimum length of Rhino-Rack crossbars I recommend are the 65 inch bars:

- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Silver # RRVA165S-2 or Black # RRVA165B-2

I have added some links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of the crossbars and Hullavator Pro # TH898.
