Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch For A 2021 Ram 3500 With Ram Boxes
Question:
I purchased a new 2021 ram 3500 with ram boxes. I dont have a camper yet but would like to know what setup I need to make this work. some say Reese sidewinder, but what about the truck hitch setup. there is no factory prep on the bed. some say I cant tow a fiver with this bed. please help!!!! Also some say Anderson ultimate gooseneck, is that an option? I only want the best since we will be traveling full time. what would be the best fifth wheel hitch solution for the narrow bed.

Since your 2021 Ram 3500 has Ram boxes you will most definitely want a rotating pin box like the # RP61422 to prevent the pin box from coming into contact with the bed rails. This will also increase the turning radius because you'll be pushing the pivot point back 22". Pin boxes have specific bolt patterns so you'll need to find the correct replacement for your trailer's current pin box. If you need help determining the correct fit then just send me some pictures of your current pin box and any serial or part numbers you see on it so I can identify it.
As for the hitch I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000lbs # RP30047 with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50085-58. These custom install brackets will cut out drilling into the frame which will save you time on the installation.
If you need a heavier weight capacity hitch for your trailer you can use the # RP30928 with the same base rails listed above.
Finally you'll need a wedge kit to prevent the king pin from rotating in the jaws of the hitch. These are hitch and pin box specific so you'll need to ensure you use the correct wedge to prevent damage to your equipment. If you need help finding the correct wedge kit then I just need to know the hitch and pin box you have.
