Recommended Brake Winch For Boat Lift To Lift 2900lb Boat

Question:

I have an older Allen bolt lift with a Shelby winch, both of which are now out of business I believe. The winch is pretty much shot and I need a new one. It is a cantilever style lift and my boat along with gear is approximately 28-2900 lbs. It has an automatic brake on it and I currently use the hand wheel and would like to continue to do so as I plan on purchasing a electric boat lift buddy motor that will turn the wheel for me. I know it is as simple as taking the old one off, attaching the new one and spooling the cable through. Im not afraid of drilling another hole or modifying a plate if needed, I just dont know what winch I should get. Also if you do have any recommendations for this winch, is there any type of cover plate available for this or will I need to fabricate something myself?

We do have one winch that will work for you, the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake # DL24844. This winch has a 3500lb capacity which will be perfect for your boat, and the automatic brake will allow you to raise or lower your boat without worrying about dropping the boat.

This winch is compatible with a winch cable up to 3/8" in diameter, so as long as your current winch cable is that size or smaller and in good shape you can reuse it. If it needs to be replaced as well I recommend the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 1/4" Diameter x 50' Long - 3,500 lbs # DL24104.

There is not a cover for this winch, so if you are wanting one you would need to custom make it.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
