Question:

I HAVE A 24 FT PONTOON BOAT WITH 32 FT TRAILERING LENGTH. TOTAL WEIGHT IS APPX 4700 LB. Towing with 2012 chevy 2500hd 4x4. I think it needs about 5 to 6 in of . Will this hitch work? Or what would you recommend. Thanks

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-0600 is a good system and it does look to match your boat trailer based on the information that you have provided for me. I typically stay away from recommending this type of hitch that uses the round bar for the weight distribution. I don't like that they hang as low as they do as this will sometimes create ground clearance issues while driving especially with boat trailers that tend to ride very low. Also these bars are loaded from the bottom of the hitch and rely on a spring clip and retainer pin to hold the bar in place. If that fails or is knocked loose by road shock it could cause the spring bar to fall out while driving.

A better option would be the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET as it uses trunnion bars that insert horizontally into the hitch head and are held in place by pins with a cotter pin retainer. This system is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 6,000lbs and a tongue weight of 200-600lbs. With the included 2" shank you have a maximum rise of 7" to a maximum drop of 3" with height adjustments that are 1-1/4" apart. Best of all this hitch is made in the USA and has a Lifetime Warranty.

A 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 is needed to install the included 2" hitch ball to the head of the hitch. And I recommend using the Sway Bracket Jackets # EQ95-01-5150 to reduce the noise caused from the steel on steel contact of the weight distribution bars on the L-brackets that are attached to the trailer frame.

If your Pontoon trailer has a straight tongue you will need the Pole-Tongue Adapter # EQ95-01-5950 to use the Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch. It is adjustable for straight trailer tongues 1"-5" wide an 2"-5" tall.
