Roof Rack Canoe Carrier Solution for Crossbars
Question:
We need straps to hold our canoe to the roof rack. The side bars of the rack are too big for the S-hooks of most ratchet straps. Can you recommend a caribiner or other quick clip to go around the side bar and then attach the S-hook to? Without something we just wrap the strap around the bar and put the S-hook around the strap, but this never seems really safe. Vehicles are 2007 Subaru Outback, and 2013 Ford Expedition.

Easiest solution might be a roof rack canoe carrier like the Yakima KeelOver part # Y04069 which comes with attachments that hold the canoe to the crossbars and then straps that hold the front and back of the boat.
