Recommended Bike Rack For 2012 Honda Fit With Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch 24826 Installed

Question:

I currently have a Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4on our 2012 Honda Fit. We have a new bike rack that can’t be used with a class 1 hitch. Can an adapter trailer hitch extension riser be used with this hitch to accommodate the new bike rack?

I have a replacement bike rack option for you, but unfortunately you will not be able to use a hitch adapter with the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver you have installed on your 2012 Honda Fit. The reason for this is any hitch extension/adapter will reduce the capacities of the hitch by 50% which would render the hitch unable to support a bike rack and bikes.

Instead you will need to go with a bike rack that is compatible with your class I hitch or install a new hitch that has a 2" opening on your Fit.

If you go with a new bike rack, the Thule Apex XT 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH9024XT which will allow you to carry two bikes weighing up to 37.5lbs each, and is compatible with your class I hitch. This rack also tilts allowing you easy access to your rear cargo area when the bikes are not on the rack.

If you go with the new hitch, you can use the EcoHitch # 306-X7286. This is a rare setup because it is only a class II hitch, but has the more popular 2" receiver opening.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
