Hobie Outback Kayak Roof Top Carrier for a 2018 Ford F-250 Crew Cab With Short Bed Camper Shell

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford F-250 crew cab truck with a short-bed Leer camper shell. I want to carry 2 Hobie Outback Kayaks each is 34inch wideinch on the roof with one aero bar attached to the truck roof and the other aero bar attached to the camper shell. I want to transport the kayaks upside down, so the bars will need to be very wide. I think I need the following: 2x Rhino or Yakima tracks for the top of the camper shell 2x Yakima 80inch aero bars - black 2x Yakima Showboat 66 yak loaders 2x Yakima Big Catch yak saddles I do not know how to go from the track on top of the camper shell to the aero bars. Is it 2x landing pads and 2x towers? I also need the towers and clamps to attached one of the aero bars to the roof of the truck. Thanks

With the weight of your Hobie Outback Kayaks being between 85 and 103lbs from the factory you will want to use the a Rhino-Rack setup. It is rated for 209lbs versus the 165 that the Yakima is capable of holding.

For your 2018 Ford F-250 you will need 2 sets of the Rhino-Rack RTC-Style Roof Rack Tracks # RTC16. One set for the cab of your F-250 and one set for your Leer camper shell.

Next you will want Track Mount RLTF Legs # RLTF. You will need one set for each Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty Roof Rack Crossbar # RB1800B that you intend to mount. These bars are 71" long and will allow both your 34" wide kayaks to fit on them.

You can use the Crossbar Pads # RRRWP04 for your kayaks to lay on since you want to mount them top down.
