Question:

Hello Hopefully you can help. I’ve got a 2006 forest river Salem 19’ trailer 7356 loaded rating. Trying figure out what weight distributing hitch would be best for my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. It has a frame mounted hitch under the bumper no marking on the hitch. This is the info I pulled from the Vin DEAD WEIGHT HITCH - MAX TRAILER WT. 5000 lbs 5000.0 min 5000.0 max DEAD WEIGHT HITCH - MAX TONGUE WT. 500 lbs 500.0 min 500.0 max WT DISTRIBUTING HITCH - MAX TRAILER WT. 7350, 8350, 7350 lbs 7350.0 min 8350.0 max WT DISTRIBUTING HITCH - MAX TONGUE WT. 735, 835, 735 lbs 735.0 min 835.0 max Would like sway control as well.

I'd be glad to help you find a weight distribution system with sway control for you. I looked up your factory towing package on your 2007 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 1500 and with the weight of your travel trailer you should consider replacing your factory receiver hitch altogether. You are right at the maximum weight capacity and I recommend replacing that hitch with a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver item # 41929. This is a class IV hitch with a 12,000 lbs towing capactiy and a max tongue weight of 1200 lbs.

As long as the total tongue weight of your 2006 19' Salem XL Travel Trailer stays under 800 lbs the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control item # FA92-00-0800 you were looking at, will be perfect for your needs. It is a trunnion bar system that uses two points of steel-on-steel friction that work to prevent and correct trailer sway. Sway control brackets help to ensure that your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. I have attached a couple review links on this system.
