Frame Mounted Forged D-Ring Tie Downs on Big Tex 70 Steel Car Trailer

Question:

I have a Big Tex 70 DM dovetail car trailer. It has steel decking. I want to add additional tie downs for my car. Do they need to be anchored to the frame of the trailer or is it ok to place them in the metal decking? And which part do you recommend? I am hauling a 3600lb. GT350. Thanks

I can absolutely help you and make a recommendation. The floor of your Big Tex 70 car trailer is an 1/8 diamond steel plate. The 1/8 plate will be fine for a tie down point for anything but a car. You need a bracket not to fasten something down tight but to keep your car from moving. The rolling resistance would be too much for an 1/8 plate but sufficient for any type of other loads, like lumber, drywall, trash, pipe etc. You're going to need to drill into the frame to safely secure
mounting brackets to haul your GT350.

I recommend the Buyers Products 5/8" Forged D-Ring With 4-Hole Integral Mounting Bracket item # 337B40MP. The 4-Hole mounting bracket helps spread pull force to multiple anchor points. They are steel forged and have a corrosion-resistant black powder-coated finish. They are rated up to 6,130 lbs each.
