7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2021 Honda Passport

Question:

I have a 2021 Honda Passport and would like to install either the Curt 56421 or Tekonsha 118291 7way trailer wiring harness and one of the dash mount brake controllers. If I use the Curt 56421 or Tekonsha 118291 harness and the Curt 51393 Brake controller wiring harness will that allow me to use a dash mount proportional controller and if so, which ones would work? For various reasons I do not want to use the Curt Echo. The Converter versus No Converter issue is mentioned, but there is no explanation for what a converter does or whether it is necessary in this context.

A taillight converter combines 3 circuits, left turn signal, right turn signal and brake lamps into two circuits. Once installed, you'll have two circuits; left turn combined with brake lamp and right turn combined with brake lamp. This is necessary because the trailer uses a 2 wire system instead of the 3 wire system used on the tow vehicle.

I'd recommend the Tekonsha # 118291. The Passport is prewired for a brake controller so installation will be a plug and play proposition. For a fairly inexpensive option for a standard dash-mount brake controller I'd recommend the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. You'll also need the vehicle specific brake controller wiring harness for Honda, part # 3070-P. The connector should be located up above the e-brake pedal as shown in the provided photo.
