Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness Recommendation For a 1969 GMC P15 Van
Question:
Im looking for a hitch for a 1969 GMC P15 step van same as Chevy P10. The frame is 34inch wide and I would need at least 7.5inch from frame to top of receiver to clear the bumper. The Curt C15511 would seem to fit the bill but the frames on these vans are really short 102inch wheel base, similar to Blazer and I dont think the front-most bolt holes on the hitch will meet the frame. Any recommendations? Thanks.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13900 looks to be the closest bolt on receiver that I can find to fit your 1969 GMC P15 van. It has a 6-7/8" drop from the frame to top of the receiver so that may require you to notch into your bumper slightly.
I recommend the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets # C47CR. With this you will be able to place the receiver tube exactly where you want on the rear bumper. This will allow you the best ground clearance without having to modify your rear bumper. The frame brackets are only 10-1/2" deep so you should not have any issues with it mounting to your short length of frame.
The Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT will give you a 4-way flat trailer connector without having to splice into your factory harness. It uses sensors to detect power in the wiring for the lights. This will reduce any strain from being put onto your factory wiring. If you need a 7-way blade connector you can add the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 and a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 to give you a functioning 7-way. The brake controller is customizable and works with trailers that have up to 4 braking axles.
