Where To Find Factory Trailer Brake Controller Port In 2004 Dodge Dakota
Question:
I have a 2004 dakota, it has a 7 way installed with all 7 wires in it but there is no plug under the dash. Is that common? I dont know if it was factory installed or not, but it looks to me as it was. Is there any other place they would put the plug for controller? Or is there a way to hard wire it in

That is pretty odd as other than the read wire shown in your picture the 7-way connector on your 2004 Dodge Dakota does appear to be a factory install. If it is a factory install the only place the trailer brake controller port would be is near the white box shown in your picture and there is not another location it would be. I would look around up there and make sure it isn't tucked up out of sight for some reason.
If you do not have the port do not worry, you can still install the controller by hardwiring it.
You will need to use install kit # 5506 and enough # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to run from the trailer brake controller to the 7-way connector. The connections will be as follows:
Black wire of trailer brake controller harness to positive terminal of vehicle battery with included 20 amp or 30 amp circuit breaker (This will be dependent on the controller you have and how many braking axles your trailer has so you will need to check the installation manual of your controller to be sure which breaker is correct.)
White wire of trailer brake controller harness to ground
Blue wire of trailer brake controller harness to the 5 o'clock pin of 7-way connector with # 10-1-1.
Red wire of trailer brake controller harness to cold side wire of stop light switch that only has power when brake pedal is pressed. Using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 will help you find the correct wire.
If you do not already have a trailer brake controller the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 is a great choice as it is an extremely reliable controller and is a proportional controller which is the go to option. Proportional controllers use a built in inertia sensor to detect the intensity you are applying the brakes and sends that same braking intensity to your trailers brakes for smooth, controlled braking.
If you find you do have the factory trailer brake controller port you can install the # 90885 using Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3020-P.
I included video of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
