Can Double Eye Springs be Replaced with Slipper Springs on a 1969 Shoreline Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 1969 shoreline boat trailer that needs new leaf springs. The ones on my trailer are an open eye style instead of the flat slipper. I was wondering if I could use the style thats offered on the website for my trailer still?

In most cases switching from double eye to slipper spring requires new hangers and mounting hardware. This would require you to cut the old spring hangers off the trailer and mount the new hangers in the correct location for the slipper springs. Due to the extra welding involved, I suggest you stay with your original suspension set-up.

To select the correct springs you need the weight capacity of each axle. Then you need to measure the dimension from center of eye to center of eye on your double eye springs to select the correct springs for your trailer. Remember, springs are sold individually, and it is recommended that you replace in pairs.

I have attached a Double Eye and Slipper Spring Suspension Review that will give you accurate information regarding the two types of springs you are asking about. I have provided links to charts referencing both types of springs for you to select from.

If you can get me the axle weight rating and the length of your springs, I will try to find the correct parts for you.
