How Much Grease Do I Need To Have In My Boat Trailer Hubs?
Question:
My boat trailer hubs have grease on the back side of them. Upon pulling the first hub off to check bearings discovered the zerk on the back side. It feeds to the inside of the hub between the bearings but the hub was not full of grease, only the bearings. Should grease be pumped into the hub until it is full?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For a Boat Trailer I recommend filling the entire hub with LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390. This grease is highly water insoluble meaning that it will not break down with water. By filling the entire hub with grease it helps to prevent water from getting inside the hub and damaging any of the bearings or causing rust to occur inside the spindle.
With having your grease zerk on the hub you can remove the grease cap to push grease throughout the entire hub and replace the cap when grease has pushed its way throughout the hub.
