Question:
If I use a 2inch hitch on my 2010 Equinox what type of adapter do I need for 1 1/4 inch cargo carrier?

To carry a cargo carrier that has a 1-1/4" shank with your 2010 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2" receiver you will need a 3" to 1-1/4" reducer # HT02.
This will give you a 1-1/4" receiver for your cargo carrier to fit in, but you will be limited to 300lbs tongue weight.
When you need to use an accessory that has a 2" shank then you can just simply remove the adapter.
If the cargo you are carrying exceeds 300lbs you will need to replace your cargo carrier with one that has a dedicated 2" shank. I recommend the 60x22 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Aluminum - 500 lbs # e98874 which is made out of steel, but has a carrying capacity of 500lbs and will fit perfectly on your Equinox.
Using the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98865 you were looking at that has a 2" receiver is the best option in my opinion. The 2" receiver will give you the most options when it comes to accessories as 2" receivers are by far the most common, and its 350lb tongue weight rating and 3500lb trailer weight rating is perfect for towing or carrying a bike rack/cargo carrier with your 2010 Equinox.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
