Instructions on Installing a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller # 90195 on 2006 Chevrolet Express Van
Question:
I have located the four wires taped to the pass throughfoot harness under the dash for the elec brake control. They are as described by GM Black = Ground, Red/White = Fused battery, Dark Blue = Trailer brake feed, Light Blue = Fused stop lamp/CHMSL? How do I wire in the P3 to these wires? Thanks

If you look at our FAQ page on brake controllers, which I have provided for you, you will see a chart showing how to match the typical wire colors from your 2006 Chevrolet Express Van and the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. If your vehicle has a factory-provided brake controller harness, the breakdown is as follows:
Wire Harness: Red, Brake Controller: Black, Function: +12 Volts
Wire Harness: Light Blue, Brake Controller: Red, Function: Stoplight
Wire Harness: Black, Brake Controller: White, Function: Ground
Wire Harness: Dark Blue, Brake Controller: Blue, Function: Trailer Brakes
Wire Harness: Brown, Brake Controller: N/A, Function: Illumination
Please note the brown wire is an illumination circuit that is not needed for the brake controller to function. The end of this wire should be capped and can be bundled out of the way. You should also test the red/black wire to ensure it is putting out 12 volts as well as testing the light blue wire to see if it shows voltage when the brake is pressed. If the red/black wire does not show power, check the fuse box under the hood for a missing 30 amp fuse and install it to activate this circuit.
You will also need an operable 4-pole adapter. I recommend the Draw-Tite 4-Pole Kit With Circuit Kit # 18252. In addition to the circuit tester, quick splice connectors are also included.
If you do not have an OEM 7-way, you will need the etrailer Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will give you a connector at the rear of your vehicle and provide the wire to run the 12-volt circuit and brake output to the 7-way adapter. Also, if you do not have the OEM 7-way, you will need to look under your vehicle at the rear to see if you can find the brake control output feed wire.
I am including links to the installation instructions for the Prodigy P3, a video showing the typical installation of this brake controller, and links to our FAQ pages on installing brake controllers from scratch and the ETBC7.
