How To Transport Kayaks On 2014 Silverado 3500 With 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Im looking for a over the cab truck rack that can be supported by legs that clamp to the truck bed behind the cab and the front end being supported by a FRONT receiver hitch attachment. I need the bed of the truck clear to attach 5th wheel RV - trying to find a very solid solution to carry kayaks. Not fond of roof racks that clamp onto the cab of the truck. Can any of your over the cab ladder racks be modified to accomplish this? I have a 2014 Chevy 3500 HD crew cab with 6 1/2 foot bed. Any help / suggestions appreciated.

I have a possible solution for you, but there are not any ladder racks available that will allow you to use a 5th wheel trailer. Also, I do not recommend modifying an over-the-cab ladder rack as this would compromise its structural integrity. Since you don't want to clamp on a roof rack, I recommend looking into the Malone Deluxe Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 18" # MPG152. This is an economical option for carrying a kayak; the foam block gets secured to your naked roof with the included straps which then allow for a kayak to be installed. You can add a second one if you have two kayaks.

If you are worried that you will not have enough room for the kayaks to extend over the bed because of the 5th wheel, I recommend adding Erickson Big Bed Junior Load Extender for Truck Bed or Roof - 2" Hitches # EM07605 to your front trailer hitch receiver. This will allow you to mount your kayaks between the front load extender and the foam blocks on your roof so that the bed will be completely clear of your 5th wheel. I attached demonstration videos for you.
