Troubleshooting Battery Dying After Installing Roadmaster Battery Disconnect on 1998 Jeep TJ

Question:

We have installed this part but when my 1998 Jeep Tj is sitting not being towed I have to turn the new switch to off now or the solenoid seems to kill the battery. What have we wired wrong or done wrong ?

There could be a couple of things going on here since the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect # RM-766 doesn't typically need to be installed on a 1998 Jeep TJ Wrangler. I would check the fuse box with the ignition turned off and see what fuses are still showing voltage and what the amperage is when the ignition is off. The other thing to look at is the Roadmaster Brake Light Relay Kit # RM-88400 that you've likely got installed; it's possible that the relay may be constantly energized and is draining the battery.

You'll need a multimeter like the Digital Multimeter with 42" Long Test Leads - LED Display # PT89ZR and a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to perform these tests, but that would be where I'd start and see what you can find. If any of the fuses that are found to be powered correspond to any of the towing components you've installed that could be an indicator of where the issue stems from. Let me know what you find and I can continue to help you troubleshoot this.
