Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2988 Lb R-Pod Travel Trailer
Question:
My TV is a 2017 Jeep wrangler with 3500 lbs tow capacity. I am towing a 2017 R-Pod camper with a weight of 2988 lbs. I need a weight distribution hitch. Which one do you recommend and what do i look for. Theres a lot of different tongue weight numbers out there

The first step involved in choosing a weight distribution system is to identify the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer. I'll link to an article that shows a few ways to do this, but a tongue weight scale like the # e99044 would be an easy way to determine your trailer's as-towed tongue weight.
Assuming that the 2988 lb weight you mentioned is the fully loaded weight of the trailer, the tongue weight would range between 300 and 450 lbs. I'd recommend a system with an integrated sway control component like the Fastway # FA92-00-0600 which would be effective on trailers with tongue weights ranging from 250-600 lbs which is right where your R-Pod would fall. The system doesn't include a trailer ball, for a 2 inch ball use # A-90. Travel trailers are very susceptible to trailer sway caused by crosswinds and turbulence from passing traffic. Couple that with a shorter wheelbase vehicle like the Wrangler, using sway control is highly recommended.
