Can I Disconnect Power from Curt T-Connector Part C56331 When Not Towing For Long Periods

Question:

I have installed the Curt T-connector in our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. My question is since I only pull a trailer a few times a year would there be any problems if I just removed the inline fuse in the black wire at the battery, so there would not be power going to the converter box all the time. Then just put the fuse in when I was going to pull a trailer.

The correct Curt trailer wiring harness for your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan is part # C56331. This does include a mains fuse holder for controlling 12V power to the taillight converter box.

If you wish you may remove this fuse to cut-off power input to the converter box. However, do be careful to avoid losing the fuse (or keep some spares in the glove box, which is a good idea in any case). Do please note that when the converter output is not connected to a trailer via the 4-pole, no power is drawn from the tow vehicle battery, so you are not really taking any significant load off the battery by pulling the fuse.

You may want to apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the 4-pole connector to protect it from corrosion while not in use. You can use part # 11755 for this purpose.
