How Do I Determine What Wires On The Taillights Are the Correct Wires To Connect The Tekonsha ZCI?
Question:
Trying to install Tekonsha ZCI on 2012 Mini Cooper R56 Mk II. Info on vehicle wiring code is impossible to find. I have tried every combination possible but cannot get a connection to four flat socket for tail lights or brakes. I wasted money on a Haynes manual and the wiring diagrams have multiple errors. Any idea on which wiring code Im dealing with? FWIW, both tail lights have a yellow/black and blue/ violet wire. Thanks for any help.

The best way to know for sure is by using a Test Light # PTW2992. You can disconnect the taillight harness on your 2012 Mini Cooper and use the test light to confirm the correct wires for your vehicle. Simply connect the alligator clip of the test light to a suitable ground. Then while having someone operate the signals and brakes you can determine which wire controls each function at the connector.
Once you have identified all of your wires then you will be able to install the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT on your Mini.
Be sure to point the arrow on the sensor towards the light on the wiring harness.
