Why is a Bike Rack Not Rated for Use on a Flat-Towed Vehicle

Question:

Why do you say this rack is not recommended on a flat towed vehicle. Why is that any different than putting it on a car

Bike racks are tested under different situations to make sure they can stand up to the unique conditions of each. Flat-towed vehicles, for example, have more sway and bounce than if they are driving themselves. When a manufacturer states that their rack is not for flat-towed vehicles, it means that the rack performs well under regular driving conditions, but it cannot stand up to the additional sway and bounce of the vehicle when it's flat-towed. The Swagman Current, part # S64678, that you mentioned is not rated for flat-towed vehicles.

If you're looking for a bike rack for your flat-towed vehicle, I recommend the Swagman Traveler XC2, part # S64663. This like the other, is made by Swagman. However, this one is built to withstand the conditions of a flat-towed vehicle. It fits 2" hitches and can carry 4 bikes up to 35 pounds each. I've linked to a video review of this below.
