Troubleshooting a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 That is Getting an N.C. Error

Question:

Prodigy P2 has worked great over the past year we’ve had it. Leaving camp site yesterday I did a quick test on brakes/manual switch all worked well. Almost home 6hrs later notice n.c. On display. Neither pedal nor manual switch activated trailer brakes. At home unplugged Prodigy for possible reset. In driveway still getting nc when connected to trailer. At 7 pin outlet getting 3v when brake applied and 11v with manual slide. Cut blue wire near controller and got same results. 3v and 11v. Is voltage output correct? Is controller bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

The code you are getting with your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 has to do with the connection. The voltage you read looks to be optimal, so it is definitely not that. The "n.c." code you are getting will refer to a few things that have gone wrong.

First, the trailer is not connected to the tow vehicle.
Causes:
(A) The trailer connector is becoming disconnected while towing
(B) The trailer brake port (5 o'clock position on the 7 Way) becoming corroded and not allowing for a solid connection.
Testing and Solutions:
(A) This is an easy one to test. Simply plug the trailer into the vehicle and make sure the door flap is fully locking on to the trailer's plug. Give it a little wiggle to make sure it is staying put. If it is backing out due to the locking tabs being broken or worn down, you will need to replace either the 7 Way on the vehicle and or trailer.
(B) You can test this by plugging the trailer into the vehicle and testing the brake wire after the trailer plug. If this is not getting power, you will need to clean the ports and retest. If cleaning the ports still isn't helping, it will be best to replace the 7 Way on the vehicle and or trailer.

Second, something has gone wrong the trailer's brakes.
Causes:
(A) The trailer is connected with open circuit on brake line.
(B) Loss of one or more trailer brake magnet ground connection.
Testing and Solutions:
(A) This will be due to the wire connecting to the brakes becoming disconnected or damaged. You will need to follow that line to see if the is a break somewhere. If one is found, you will need to splice the wires back together and retest.
(B) This one is pretty easy to test and you will need to make sure the ground wire on all the brakes have a good, solid connection to bare metal. These do become loose over time and a bad ground can cause any number of weird things to happen. If this is the case, reground all the brakes making sure you are not connecting to anything aluminum. It is also advisable to not stack ground wires and is best to have each ground as its own.

If none of these fixes get you up and running properly, let me know and we can try something else. That being said, it is most likely one of these and you should be good to go.
