Determining Which Idler Hub Fits 2000lb Axle On 1979 Trailrite Boat Trailer

Question:

So I have a 1979 Trailrite boat trailer and I am looking to Install this hub. Any thoughts on if it’s correct? Wheels are 5X4.5 and it’s a 2k axle. Only part number I found was a Bearing Buddy number of 1980. Reading the specs for that and the specs for this hub it seems correct.

It is very possible that the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 8" to 12" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-2-1K you were looking at will fit the 2000lb axle on your 1979 Trailrite Boat Trailer, but to be sure you will need to confirm the bearing combination of your current hub.

To determine which bearings your hubs use you will need to remove one of your hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

2000lb axles typically uses inner and outer bearing # L44643 like the # AKIHUB-545-2-1K, or inner and outer bearing # L44649 like the # AKIHUB-545-2-2K.

Both options will work with the # BB1980A-SS you currently have on your hubs.

If you can tell me which bearings your current hubs use I would be happy to confirm the correct replacement for you.

I included a few video reviews of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
