Solution for Adding Cargo Space at Rear of 1997 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Hello, I just replied to an email I received from etrailer.com, but just in case it didnt go through, here is the message again. I am considering purchasing a roof box for my 1997 Toyota 4Runner, which already has a Yakima bike rack on it. I am curious if a small product like this, or anything else, would work: https://www.etrailer.com/Roof-Box/Trunx/TRX44FR.html I am trying to add something that can attach to the 4Runners roof rack/luggage rack, behind the Yakima bike rack I currently have in place. I typically use the middle two bike mounts for my kidsfoot bikes, so I dont have a concern about the bike wheels going further than the mount. I can probably move those up a few inches if it would help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if its to tell me this isnt a good idea. Right now, I would estimate that the distance between the two main 4Runner roof rack/luggage rack bars is about 30 inches in this configuration. Thanks!

I think I have a solution that could work well for you but based on the clearance I see in the pictures you submitted I don't believe you'll have any luck fitting a cargo box like the # TRX44FR behind the bike racks.

What might be your best option would be an enclosed hitch mounted cargo carrier like the # Y62VR to carry the cargo at the rear of the vehicle. You'd need a hitch installed too on the vehicle if there isn't one present like with the # C13087.
