Can a Trailer Hitch be Installed on a 2007 Ford Mustang GT
Question:
I want to put a hitch on my GT but most people say it cant be done. I tried a rental chain and they tried two and said they couldnt do it. Something about muffler clearance and I saw they had dropped the mufflers. I watched the video on the 06 GT and it looks like my car but I also noticed on the site it reads that one hitch will fit the Gt and one will not but the part #s are the same. any explanation or advice. Thanks in advance

First, if you go through our fit guide for a specific year, make, and model vehicle, if you do not also select a specific trim level (if available) from the drop down menu it will show you all the hitches for all the trim levels. Some fit multiple trim levels so that is why you see it fitting GT and not GT.
You can install a Curt trailer hitch # C11312 on your 2007 Ford Mustang GT as long as it is not a specialty GT model. The easiest way to tell, it fits the Mustangs with the V6, but not the V8. Rental places are not necessarily the best places to go to have a hitch installed. We have installed hitches on Mustang GTs the same generation as yours so I can tell you that they do fit if the vehicle is stock. If you have aftermarket exhaust on it, I cannot promise it will fit.
There can be a small issue with convertible models because there is an extra support bracket that makes installation difficult if the installer is not experienced.
To complete your towing set up you can use 1-7/8 inch diameter ball # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258. You will also need a ball mount. And for trailer wiring use # 18252.
