Options for Carrying a Bike Rack on a Travel Trailer

Question:

I am looking for 2 hitch receivers and 2 fat-tire, electric bike racks. One for my 2008 Lexus 470GX. Curt 31367 maybe? Cant tell if would fit. I want to put a 2inch receiver on the front for a 2 bike rack. We have electric bikes as do our friends. One is a 4inch fat tire bike so the weight is significant. I also tow a 23MK ForestRiver Cherokee, Grey Wolf Travel Trailer. I would also like a hitch receiver on the back of the travel trailer so I can swap things around and carry more bikes but I dont trust the bolt-on hitch head that bolts to the square tube bumper, which I have now. Although, the bumper would be good additional support for a receiver tube that has a frame that bolts/welded to the frame. We would leave the fold-down rack at home when we take the bikes and we are looking at a hoist/winch mount for under the belly by the back axel for the spare. The previous bike rack didnt survive the last trip. Overloaded and too much flex in the hitch. Old rack, not built for electric bikes. The receiver in the photo is in a perfect position but just bolts to the square bumper which allows it to flex too much and eventually would probably break. I would like it attached to the frame stringers. Thanks for your help.

The Curt # 31367 is specific to the Toyota 4Runner and FJ Cruiser, so it will not fit your 2008 Lexus GX 470. I checked with Curt and Draw-Tite and, unfortunately, they do not offer front mount hitches for your vehicle. That being said, we definitely have options for a hitch on the camper and bike rack rated for use on said camper.

As to the hitch, the Curt # C13701 is adjust able from 18 inches to 51 inches wide, making it very versatile. It also has a tongue weight rating up to 500 pounds which will handle just about any bike rack you could ever need.

The bike rack I suggest is the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR will definitely work with 2 E-Bikes, but you would also need to add the Swagman Fat Tire Adapters # S64679. This is also only a 2 bike carrier as we do not currently have a 4 bike carrier option for a travel trailer.

What may be a better option, however, would be to use the fold down cargo rack you already have installed on the trailer. Something like the Rhino-Rack The Claw # RR37QH can be installed directly onto the mesh of the carrier. This would require the removal of the front wheels, but would allow just about anything to be carried.
