Yes, you can replace your hub with one that has better seals, though water should remain out of your boat trailer's hubs with a combination of double-lipped grease seals and keeping your bearings packed with grease. This will be the best prevention against water getting into your hubs.

To determine the correct hubs for your trailer, you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.

If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.

For example, for 2,700 lb axles, CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly w/ Case for 2.7K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized - Pre-Greased # CE13315 uses inner bearing and outer bearing # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) and a grease seal with a 1.250" inner diameter. These are pre-greased with heavy-duty marine bearing grease, though you'll want to continue to re-pack them with LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR.

If you have different bearings and need a different hub, have added a link below to our entire selection of hubs for you to come back to, as well as a link to a help article on packing bearings which might be helpful.
